About John Mazza

John Mazza is a 38-year resident of Malibu and has been active in community service throughout the years.  John currently sits as vice chair of the Malibu Planning Commission, director of the Malibu Arts Foundation, founder and president of the Malibu Surfing Museum at Pepperdine and is a member of the Malibu Library Task Force Committee.

John graduated from Claremont McKenna College and majored in fine arts, accounting and economics. He received his MBA from the University of Southern California with majors in econometrics, statistics and finance. For 16 years, John worked in various positions with the William O'Neil & Co., Inc., including a mutual fund portfolio manager, director for research, treasurer, CFO and president of Investor's Business Daily, the premier daily financial newspaper.

From 1983 through 2002, John served as vice chairman with Drake Capital Securities, Drake Holding Company, Drake Energy Corp. and Aoptix Corporation, where he was founder and director. In 1980, John founded Panamint Properties, a commercial real estate firm in Malibu , which he still owns and operates.

John's commitment to broad community activism has provided him with a one of a kind understanding of Malibu issues on both a local neighborhood and city wide basis. He has attended and contributed to hundreds of city council, commission and committee meetings. His institutional memory about Malibu civic matter is legendary. He has served as president of Malibu Riviera One, president of the Point Dume Community Association and director of the Point Dume Services District. He is the Planning Commission representative for both the Business Roundtable and the Zoning Ordinance Revision and Code Enforcement Subcommittee. John also proudly serves as the president of Malibu Dog Adoptions, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit.
